SPQR are the initials of the Latin phrase "Senātus Populusque Rōmānus" which means "The Senate and People of Rome" This was a typical way to refer to the government of the Roman Republic and later the Roman Empire.

Common Roman iconography of the Romans was the Aquila (Eagle) which was shown prominently, especially in military uses such as the Vexillum, a flag-like object that was used as a military standard by the Roman army. A common vexillum displayed imagery of the Roman Aquila on a reddish backdrop, we opted for a black backdrop as seen in the Flag Patch available.
