Despite the fact that the majority of USAF personnel do not operate in environments where camouflage has an impact on job performance, USAF joined the Marines and Army in the pursuit of a distinctive camouflage design to call its own eventually going with a digital tiger-stripe pattern like pattern, calling it the Airman's Battle Uniform (ABU).
ABU digital tiger-stripe pattern was in its Prototype and testing phase in 2003-2006, On 2 October 2007, the Air Force began issuing the ABU digital tiger-stripe to enlisted trainees. The new pattern became fully integrated into the Air Force supply system by 2011. In late 2018 it was officially announced that the ABU would be dropped completely from USAF inventory and replaced with OCP; the official wear-out date for ABU is 1 April, 2021.
